New Store Opening in Salem, OR!

It's been a whirlwind experience getting my Nature's Pet Market opened in South Salem, Oregon. It's exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. There is so much to do and keep track of but we are almost there! We hope to be open at the end of the first week in August.

We are located in the Sunnyslope Shopping Center, 2 doors from Roth's, at 4555 Liberty Rd S. #130. The sign will be going up in just a few days! Can't wait!

The freezers came yesterday. They are cold and waiting to get filled on Monday. Most of the wonderful foods and treats are in. We are still waiting for a few things to come in but it's looking like a great store!

Remember, the focus is on your pet, to help keep them healthy and happy. When they're happy you are! Hmmm, it can be the other way around too, can't it?....When you're happy, they are! Bring your dog with you when you stop in. We want to get pictures of our favorite customers. We can't wait to help you all!

Top 10 Pet Poisons - Protect Your Pet

With various dangers lurking in corners and cabinets, the home can be a minefield of poisons for our pets. In 2009, the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) in Urbana, IL, handled more than 140,000 cases of pets exposed to toxic substances, many of which included everyday household products. Don’t leave it up to Fido or Fluffy to keep themselves safe. Below is a list of the top 10 pet poisons that affected our furry friends in 2009.

Human Medications - For several years, human medications have been number one on the ASPCA’s list of common hazards, and 2009 was no exception. Last year, the ASPCA managed 45,816 calls involving prescription and over-the-counter drugs such as painkillers, cold medications, antidepressants and dietary supplements. Pets often snatch pill vials from counters and nightstands or gobble up medications accidentally dropped on the floor, so it’s essential to keep meds tucked away in hard-to-reach cabinets.

Insecticides - In our effort to battle home invasion…

Xylitol Dogs

We all know that chocolate and onions are not good for our dogs but I'll bet you don't know about a hidden ingredient, XYLITOL! It's found in some of our human foods and can be harmful to your dog in large quantities. It's a sugar like substance being used more and more in our human foods. It's great for humans but causes a drop in blood sugar in dogs. Even a small piece of gum with Xylitol in it can injure your dog. We, at Natures Pet Salem, care deeply about your dog. Please keep Xylitol out of your dogs reach! Just a heads up!

Pet Supplies Salem

Nature's Pet Salem is looking forward to opening on April 1 and that's no joke!

We will have a grand opening with lots of free gifts, prizes and samples of healthy and natural foods and treats. There will be lots of the manufacturer's reps on hand to answer your questions. You can bring your pet to visit too!

AND, everything will be 10% off during the grand opening!

We are looking forward to meeting all of our future customers and their pets. We cannot wait to help you and your loved pets in any way we can!

Check back often. More details to come.

Dogs Know How To Love

I don't know who to attribute this story to but I love it and just want to share it.

This is from a 6 year old whose precious dog passed away.

"People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Nothing like the words of a child to create a special moment. So sweet!

Did I hear an awwwww?
