Top 10 Pet Poisons - Protect Your Pet

With various dangers lurking in corners and cabinets, the home can be a minefield of poisons for our pets. In 2009, the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) in Urbana, IL, handled more than 140,000 cases of pets exposed to toxic substances, many of which included everyday household products. Don’t leave it up to Fido or Fluffy to keep themselves safe. Below is a list of the top 10 pet poisons that affected our furry friends in 2009. Human Medications - For several years, human medications have been number one on the ASPCA’s list of common hazards, and 2009 was no exception. Last year, the ASPCA managed 45,816 calls involving prescription and over-the-counter drugs such as painkillers, cold medications, antidepressants and dietary supplements. Pets often snatch pill vials from counters and nightstands or gobble up medications accidentally dropped on the floor, so it’s essential to keep meds tucked away in hard-to-reach cabinets. Insecticides - In our effort to battle home invas

Xylitol Dogs

We all know that chocolate and onions are not good for our dogs but I'll bet you don't know about a hidden ingredient, XYLITOL! It's found in some of our human foods and can be harmful to your dog in large quantities. It's a sugar like substance being used more and more in our human foods. It's great for humans but causes a drop in blood sugar in dogs. Even a small piece of gum with Xylitol in it can injure your dog. We, at Natures Pet Salem , care deeply about your dog. Please keep Xylitol out of your dogs reach! Just a heads up!

Dogs Know How To Love

I don't know who to attribute this story to but I love it and just want to share it. This is from a 6 year old whose precious dog passed away. "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long." Nothing like the words of a child to create a special moment. So sweet! Did I hear an awwwww?
